Communicants Class, which our church offers on an as-needed basis, is designed to prepare children age 10 and older for the privileges and responsibilities of full church membership. It is also intended to help children who have not yet publicly professed their personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior prepare for that important step.
The class is called “Communicants” because one of the results of this step of spiritual growth is participation in communion with the church body. More broadly, this milestone represents the fulfillment of the prayers and baptismal promises parents have made on behalf of their children, as we witness God’s gracious work in their lives.
During class, children study the foundational doctrines of our faith through Scripture, catechism, teaching from elders and parents, and a workbook called Understanding Your Faith. Through this study, children will grow in their understanding of who God is, the redemptive work of Christ, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the role of the Church, the sacraments, and the responsibilities of church membership.
