Weekly Bible Verse memorization is the primary goal of Awana. The class time purpose is scripture memory and understanding the meaning behind our Scripture verses. Working on your verses at home is necessary to achieve the goal of scripture memory.
Age Groups
We will break into 3 age groups for scripture memory:
- K4-K5 – Cubbies – Teacher: TBD
- 1st-3rd grade – Sparks – Teacher: Shawndee Lovoy
- 4th-5th grade – T&T – Teacher: Rebecca Wang
*If your child needs to move up or down in a class to help them succeed during Awana, I will be in touch with you or you can reach out to me as well.
Scripture Memory
The goal of scripture memory can include some gentle prompting help by the teacher, but the end goal is complete memory by the child. For this reason, it is ok if your child is on a verse for more than one week. Each child can go at their own pace and will have a booklet of verses to take home. The teacher will keep up with each child and where they are in their memory verse journey. One verse per week is ideal but not always doable, so please do not be discouraged if your child is stuck on a verse for more than one week! We will make sure they understand this in the classroom as well. This is meant to be fun and rewarding, not stressful and upsetting, so teachers and parents must work together to achieve that goal! There will be a reward system and prizes for verses memorized.
