|Our Ministry Administrative Assistant & Office Manager
Christine Cox Christine has over fifteen years experience working as a ministry assistant in both large and small churches and has volunteered her time and talents in Music, Missions, Children, and Women Ministries. She has a Bachelor of Arts in foreign languages from LaSalle University and Masters of Business Administration from Temple University (Philadelphia, PA). When she isn’t keeping our office ‘going and tracking all the details’, Christine enjoys painting pastel portraits, designing mixed-media art pieces; spending time with her husband Bob going hiking, camping, enjoying great outdoor adventures and traveling – perhaps one day traveling the USA, to Italy and to countries where she can speak German and Ukrainian, languages that she grew up with.
|Our Director of Musical Worship
Jeff Koonce Jeff has been leading worship for over 15 years and has been writing new music for old hymn texts for over 12 years. Believing in a middle path of worship between “Contemporary” and “Traditional”, Jeff started the Hymn Collective, whose mission it is to connect the Church’s rich tradition of hymns to our modern musical tastes, and to provide resources for other churches to utilize these “modern hymns”. Jeff has a Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. When not leading worship or writing new music, Jeff can usually be found playing trombone in many of the orchestras around the state of Alabama. He also enjoys reading and watching baseball. Jeff and his wife, Brandi, have two beautiful daughters who always keep things interesting.
|Our Director of Children’s Ministry
Shawndee Lovoy Shawndee and her family have been members of Cross Creek Church for 4 years; her husband, Jason, also serves as a Deacon. Their four children are very involved in school, with sports and dance, keeping the entire family very busy with all their activities, but it is a lot of fun. As a family, they love to go camping and hiking, simply being outdoors. They also love to be with their extended family and take trips to the beach or to the mountains. One interesting fact about Jason and Shawndee: in the first 6 months of marriage they lived on an RV and traveled to almost all 50 states with a ministry called First Priority! It was quite an adventurous beginning to their lives as a couple!
|Our Nursery Director
Liz Getz Elizabeth has been an active member of Cross Creek Church for 6 years. She has served in many areas of the church including hospitality, teaching Sunday School and as our Nursery Director. Elizabeth is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources. During college she worked in the church nursery of the Presbyterian church she grew up in. Since moving to Birmingham, she has spent the last 15 years working in Human Resources in the healthcare industry. After working with ‘big humans’ during the week she enjoys caring for the ‘little humans’ in the nursery on Sundays. In her free time Elizabeth loves to spend time with Hardy her beloved German Shepherd as well as going to concerts and visiting with family especially her two adorable nieces.
|Our High School / College Leaders
Ben Halbrooks Ben along with his wife, Whitney, have been working with youth in some form or fashion for about 9 years. Ben graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis and works for the Birmingham-based ministry Fixed Point Foundation. He is a proud (new) Dad of triplets – girls! So when he is not ministering to our high school/college young men, or loving on his sweet baby girls, Ben loves Swedish Fish, classic fiction, and playing the kazoo like there’s no tomorrow.
|Mary Beth McLure
Mary Beth and her family moved to Birmingham in July, 2015 and have been involved with Cross Creek since their first week in town. She is married to Sam, an adoption attorney, and they have three awesome, weird kids. Since the adoption of their oldest son, Mary Beth has been mostly “momming”; adoption momming, bio momming, foster momming and exchange student momming. Now she also enjoys ‘playing with big kids’, working with the young ladies of the church. Mary Beth loves orphans and advocating for vulnerable children and families, everything Tim Keller has to say, C.S. Lewis, crime shows, chocolate, coffee, French fries, dates with her girlfriends and dates with her wonderful husband.
|Our Youth Leaders – Pre-Teen and Middle School
Garrett Greer Originally from Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Garrett is a graduate from Samford University, with a degree in Political Science and Economics. He has worked in youth ministry with Young Life throughout his college career, and also spent a couple of summers in Yellowstone and Sequoia National Parks preaching and leading worship services with ‘A Christian Ministry in the National Parks’ (ACMNP). He enjoys disc golf, backpacking, playing the banjo, and reading. Garrett plans to attend seminary in several years and hopes through God’s will to one day pastor a church of his own.
Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, the home of race horses and bluegrass, Ellie is now a student at Samford University, majoring in Nursing. Since high school she has had an impact on younger women, intentionally investing in them and encouraging their walk with the Lord. As she had been mentored by older women, she desires to share this blessing to the young girls in our church community and for them to experience what she had experienced. A coffee enthusiast, a huge people-person, loves to swim and dance…and if you hang around her often, you will probably hear her talk about Ghana, Africa.
