Derek Dougherty
Derek grew up as a missionary kid in multiple countries, but if he were to call any place home it would be Birmingham. Along with his wife Laura and their two kids they served as missionaries with Mission to the World in Cusco, Peru for six years where they were primarily involved in church planting ministry. Before moving to Peru, Derek served as the worship leader at Cross Creek. He received his undergrad in Music Ministry from Bryan College and is currently pursuing a Masters in Christian Spiritual Formation and Leadership. Derek and Laura continue to work at MTW helping to train and prepare missionaries. Besides a good jam session, one of Derek’s favorite things to do is to play sports. It could be as laid back as a game of cornhole or an intense two-player sand volleyball game. Contact Derek

Director of Women's Ministries

Laura Dougherty
Laura has always had a heart for helping foster spiritual growth in community. She served in children’s ministry at Cross Creek Church from the time the church was planted, and then with the nudging and support of fellow believers, she gradually stepped into ministry with women through leading a Bible study and pursuing other women one on one. In 2015, the Dougherty family moved to Peru as missionaries, and Laura enjoyed the opportunity to spiritually build up and encourage other missionary women as well as Peruvian nationals over the course of six years there. Laura sees her own spiritual journey as a series of many baby steps of faith and is excited to walk alongside women as they pursue the Lord through their own baby steps of faith. Laura would love to connect with you about ways to get involved with women’s ministry! Contact Laura
